Description
This fabulous car is the sixth & last example of the 917-30. These cars are widely known as the cars that killed the Can Am Challenge as the last gasp of unlimited sports car racing. In the capable hands of Mark Donohue of Penske Racing, the Factory supported 917-30's completely destroyed the competition, earning the Championship in 1973. Said to be capable of 240 MPH, these monsters produced as much as 1500 HP in qualifying trim & were undoubtedly among the most intimidating machines ever to grace a race track. This car was to be entered in the 1974 series but was rendered instantly obsolete by rule changes specifically designed to exclude these cars. It has competed successfully in many events both competitive & the most prestigious Vintage events including the Monterey Historics in 1998. A certain winner in the Historic Can Am class at any Vintage event. http://jalopnik.com/5168936/porsche-917-happy-birthday-turbopanzer
